By: James Nalir Article 42 of Ghana's 1992 constitution grants every citizen of Ghana of eighteen years of age or older who is of sound mind the right to vote and the right to be registered as a voter for the purposes of public elections and referendums.  Article 45 (e) of the same constitution requires the Electoral Commission to implement voter registration expansion programs. Furthermore, CI 91 states that the Electoral Commission should implement a Program for Continuous Registration.  Over the last two years, the Electoral Commission has consistently failed to fulfill its responsibility of conducting Programs for the expansion of voter registration with undisclosed justification, leaving a massive backlog of approximately three million on the commission.  To fulfill a mandate that it has repeatedly failed to fulfill, the commission has scheduled a limited voter registration drive across the country from September 12 to October 2, 2023. Watch the Dilapidated State of Kojobone D/A Primary School Buildings: School Closes during Rains

Image
The dilapidated state of buildings at the Kojobone D/A Primary School is having a negative impact on both the lives and academics of pupils.  Located within the Kpandai District in the Northern Region of Ghana, Kojobone has served as a center of academics for many lower and upper primary school goers. The school, located in a farming and fishing community, can boast of many alumni who are making it in life, especially in education.   However, despite its significance in the district by serving countless small communities within the area and boasting of a high enrollment number, buildings in the school are in their sorry state. For instance, the main block, which was built many years ago, is currently unsafe and inconducive for academic purposes. Part of it has been removed by rainstorm a year ago, and has since remained so.  Apart from the main block which is a 3-unit classroom block, there is only a second 3-unit classroom block which is woefully inadequate to accom...

JM Jabs NPP: Violence has Become your New Normal

Image
Former President of Ghana and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) H.E. John Dramani Mahama (JM) has criticized the NPP after their super delegates congress.  The Congress which was held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 was characterised by violence against some delegates for some aspirants.  Taking to his official X handle (formally Twitter) JM noted that violence has become the new normal for the NPP.  He posited that such acts of violence in hitherto peaceful activities should be condemned by everyone. "Brutalizing opponents in an election has no place in modern society, especially among members of the same party. Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019 and the murder of 8 innocent citizens in 2020 remain a stain on the legacy of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamusu Bawumia" , parts of the post read. This, he argued, is detrimental to democracy. The super delegates conference, which was aimed at shortlisting just 5 out of the total aspirants v...
