JM Jabs NPP: Violence has Become your New Normal

Former President of Ghana and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) H.E. John Dramani Mahama (JM) has criticized the NPP after their super delegates congress.

The Congress which was held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 was characterised by violence against some delegates for some aspirants.

Taking to his official X handle (formally Twitter) JM noted that violence has become the new normal for the NPP.

He posited that such acts of violence in hitherto peaceful activities should be condemned by everyone.

"Brutalizing opponents in an election has no place in modern society, especially among members of the same party. Ayawaso West Wuogon in 2019 and the murder of 8 innocent citizens in 2020 remain a stain on the legacy of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamusu Bawumia", parts of the post read. This, he argued, is detrimental to democracy.

The super delegates conference, which was aimed at shortlisting just 5 out of the total aspirants vying for the flagbearership position of the NPP saw the Vice President emerge as winner but not without violence.

Some people were brutalised while agents of other aspirants were chased from venues.
