Sad: Soldier Accidental Killed Himself Near Michel Camp

A Ghanaian soldier has reportedly killed himself by accident.


The incident was announced in a press release by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces signed by Brigadier General E Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations on 19th August, 2023.

According to the release, the Soldier, Private (Pte)  Bayou Roger, member of the 5th Infantry Battalion died as a result of a suspected "accidental discharge."

The statement revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday, 19th August, 2023 while the soldier was performing duties at the Base Ammunition Depot Near Michel Camp.

"Preliminary investigative report indicates the soldier was seen sitting on his bed, waiting to relieve his colleague at a duty post at 0800 hours when his rifle went off hitting him under his chin;killing him instantly. The body of the deceased soldier has since been conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital mortuary", part of the statement read.

Meanwhile, team from the Homicide Unit of Ghana Police (GBETSELE Police Station) is collaborating with the Military Police to investigate the fatal incident, according to the release.


"The GAF takes this opportunity to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, friends and loved ones of the deceased soldier", the release concluded.
