Exclusive: MP Allegedly Uncovers more Rot at the Bank of Ghana (BoG)

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has released a series of official documents to support his allegations of bankruptcy at BoG from an initial 81 million US Dolars to 121 million US Dollars and further threatening to escalate.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday August 16, 2023, the MP announced that he will be publishing some documents on a public office for perusal by the public as part of his parliamentary oversight as an MP. Following this, the documents were published along with some allegations against the BoG in terms of procurement breaches, lack of value for money among other things.

He argued that, so far no BoG official has  disclosed for certain the exact cost of the new Head Office being constructed, dates of commencement of the projects as well as the procurement processes used  in the  award of the contract.

"It is obvious that that Ghana would have had better value for money if the BoG had been less shady and opened up the process-opting for full competitive tendering process;" he argued.

Among  many other revelations, the MP argued that processes for the commencement  of the project started on  14th January, 2020 when BoG wrote to the  PPA for approval to use Restricted Tendering Procurement Method, which same was approved by the PPA. The project, therefore, did not commence under former president John Dramani  Mahama as some NPP communicators tried to argue.

"In a bizarre twist, further investigations reveal that one of the BoG's 5 "ordained" companies; Messrs: Ronesans Holdings is not registered at the Office of the Registrar of Companies. How did an unregistered company qualify  to participate in a restricted tender?", he quizzed.

Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa further noted that all the procurement breaches and price escalations regarding the BoG project at the expense of the Ghanaian taxpayer were happening at the peak of  the COVID-19 Pandemic when the president and his government had assured Ghanaians that all other unimportant things were being put on hold and in other to focus on saving lives.

In the midst of the numerous allegations of rot revealed, he called on all well-meaning Ghanaians to join the protest to occupy BoG which is aimed at lawfully forcing the  Governor to resign.
