Limited Voter's Registration: The Dilemma of Prospective Voters

By: James Nalir Article 42 of Ghana's 1992 constitution grants every citizen of Ghana of eighteen years of age or older who is of sound mind the right to vote and the right to be registered as a voter for the purposes of public elections and referendums.  Article 45 (e) of the same constitution requires the Electoral Commission to implement voter registration expansion programs. Furthermore, CI 91 states that the Electoral Commission should implement a Program for Continuous Registration.  Over the last two years, the Electoral Commission has consistently failed to fulfill its responsibility of conducting Programs for the expansion of voter registration with undisclosed justification, leaving a massive backlog of approximately three million on the commission.  To fulfill a mandate that it has repeatedly failed to fulfill, the commission has scheduled a limited voter registration drive across the country from September 12 to October 2, 2023. Sad News: Former MP for Kpandai Constituency has Passed Away

Former Member of Parliament for Kpandai Constituency, Hon. Kojo Tawiah Likpalimor has sadly passed away.  His death, which is believed to have happened in the early hours of Tuesday, September 19, 2023 was announced by the Constituency General Secretary, Mr. Nyong Sapaku Robert after being informed by the family.  The late Likpalimor served as a member of parliament and a minister of state, representing the people of Kpandai from 1992 to 2012.  The cause of his death and illness before his passing has not been revealed yet, however he is said to have died at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. We extend our profound gratitude to the grieving family and the entire NDC. 

Agya Koo: Bawumia Should Step Down, Prepare for Another Time

Ghanaian actor and member of the New Patriotic Party, Alex Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo says Bawumia should step down and prepare to come back another time. He gave the suggestion while speaking with with a host on Akoma FM on issues surrounding the NPP Flagbearership race.  Agya Koo is a member of the campaign team of Hon. Kennedy Agyeapong, one of the strong candidates contesting to lead the NPP in the 2024 General Elections.  Agya Koo told the host that if only Bawumia will take his counsel, he will advise him to step back, get his experience together and contests another time. The dilapidated state of buildings at the Kojobone D/A Primary School is having a negative impact on both the lives and academics of pupils.  Located within the Kpandai District in the Northern Region of Ghana, Kojobone has served as a center of academics for many lower and upper primary school goers. The school, located in a farming and fishing community, can boast of many alumni who are making it in life, especially in education.   However, despite its significance in the district by serving countless small communities within the area and boasting of a high enrollment number, buildings in the school are in their sorry state. For instance, the main block, which was built many years ago, is currently unsafe and inconducive for academic purposes. Part of it has been removed by rainstorm a year ago, and has since remained so.  Apart from the main block which is a 3-unit classroom block, there is only a second 3-unit classroom block which is woefully inadequate to accommodate the enrollme

Alan Kyeremanten, one of the leading contenders for the NPP Flagbearership race has withdrawn from the race.  The announcement was made in the late hours of Tuesday, 5th September, 2023 in a press release signed by Alan himself.  He indicated that the events leading to the super delegates congress and it's aftermath shows that the process was skewed to favour a particular candidate. NSS Releases Annual Evaluation Forms: Here are the Steps to Follow

The National Service Secretariat has released the annual evaluation forms for personnel whose service comes to an end this September.  In series of emails sent to personnel, NSS announcd that personnel are to fill and submit their annual evaluation forms in order to aid the processing of their certificates.  The steps are quite simple and straightforward as follows: 1. Login to your dashboard via https://portal.nss.gov.gh/sign-in . Enter your email address used during the registration 2. Enter your password: your default password is your NSS pin code which should be typed in capital letters. 3. Confirm details if correct or Request correction if otherwise, then print your Annual Evaluation for the processing of your Certificate. 4. Print and send the annual evaluation forms to your head of department or immediate supervisor to complete the assessment forms. 5. Send the completed assessment form to your NSS district office. Richard Nyamah: We Have Lost Confidence in the Party's Systems

Richard Nyamah, a member of the campaign team for Alan Kyeremanten has stated that they have lost confidence in the party's (NPP) systems and the way they conduct their elections.  Mr. Nyamah was speaking in an interview with Metro TVs Bridget Otoo when he raised these concerns. He revealed that even though the election was properly planned, based on certain rules and guidelines which were meant to make the elections successful and credible, its implementation was very different.  His concernes comes at the back of alleged attacks on some agents for Alan Kyeremanten during the party's super delegates congress, which happened in North East and some part of the Northern Region. The Amankrado for the Kojoboni Community in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region of Ghana, Papa Kwaku Philip (Nana) has reignited the call for a yam market in the town. Speaking at the Kojoboni Annual Yam Festival on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, he reiterated that the community needs a deserving yam market. The community is a farming community, and boasts as one which contributes to the food needs of the people of Kpandai and Ghana atlarge. Establishing the yam market, he revealed, will help farmers and buyers as well as creating jobs for the youth.  Nana Amankrado also urged all people in the community to advocate peace, and see each other as people of Kojoboni, rather than landlords and subordinates.  The occasion brings together all people in the community, regardless of ethnicity for celebration and to thanks the gods and ancestors for the year's yield.

SHS Girl Goes Partially Blind after Headmaster Allegedly Slapped her

A female SHS student is said to have gone partially blind after the headmaster of her school slapped her. The girl, who was identified only as Diana, a second year student at the Nkwatia Presby Senior High School, is alleged to have gone out without exeat, which led to the unexpected punishment.  In a series of photos and a video shared by Nana Fianko, a social media user, the headmaster made her kneel down for a period of time and when she told him that she was unwell, his alleged response was that he’ll lash her to make her feel better.  He further revealed that the girl attempted to hold his cane when he was about to lash her and this infuriated him and prompted him to land a hefty slap on her face after which he beat her up.  Meanwhile, it has been alleged that the girl actually had permission prior to going out, but the headmaster was not ready to listen.  After photos and videos of the girl's swollen face and eyes were posted on social media, a lady who commented further reve

JM Jabs NPP: Violence has Become your New Normal

Former President of Ghana and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) H.E. John Dramani Mahama (JM) has criticized the NPP after their super delegates congress.  The Congress which was held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 was characterised by violence against some delegates for some aspirants.  Taking to his official X handle (formally Twitter) JM noted that violence has become the new normal for the NPP.  He posited that such acts of violence in hitherto peaceful activities should be condemned by everyone.  Hon. Keneddy Agyeapong has gone wild and has threateed to give the president and the vice president what he called "showdown." The MP is one of the aspirants contesting for the falgbearership of the NPP, and the super delegated conference which will see delegated vote to reduce the number of aspirants to five (5) has been slated for today, August 26, 2023.  In what is believed to be one of the venues where the elections is supposed to take place in each of the  16 regional capitals, the MP was heard making a call in a furious tone.   In the call, Ken was heard threatening to "show" the president Akufo-Addo and the vice president. Former President of Ghana and presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress has urged the public to disregard any publication pertaining to his wealth.   This was contained in a press release signed by his Special Aide Joys Bawah Mogtari in the early hours of Saturday, 26th August, 2023, with around $900 million. The press release comes at the back of some publications allegedly claiming that the former president, based on his wealth is the fourth richest man in Ghana as of 2023.  In the press release, his special aide rebutted the allegations while stressing that they are completely false and without any basis.  "Mr. Mahama vehemently denies the claims, which he considers yet another attempt to discredit his reputation, cause disaffection for him, and undermine his leadership of selfless service", part of the statement read.  She argued that "i t is obvious that this publication is part of a deliberate and discredited strategy by the New Patriotic Party (

Ghana Card: NIA to Resume Free Registration of New Applicants

The National Identification Authority has announced that it will resume registration of first-time applicants from 28th August 2023.  The announcement was made in a press release dated 23rd August, 2023 by the the Public Affairs Directorate.  Per the release, the NIA the indicated that the "registration and issuance of Ghana Cards to Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who are first-time applicants free of cost. This service will be available to such qualified applicants at eight (8) out of NIA’s 16 Regional Regional Offices and all 276 District Offices of the NIA nationwide." The NIA further revealed that the  resumption of the registration exercise has become possible due to the receipt of 484,000 blank cards from its technical partners, Identity Management Systems II Limited (IMS II) and CalBank PLC following an initiative by the Ministry of Finance.  The registration will be in two phases, with the first phase lasting  a total of ten (10) working days beginning on Monday, 2

Sad Video: 20-year old Allegedly Electrocuted After Failed Attempted Theft

A young man in his twenties has allegedly been electrocuted after attempting to steal from a shop.  The incident, which happened in a town called Fiapre in Bono Region involved a young man called Frinpong, believed to be 20-years old.  According to the correspondent William Arthur who spoke to UTV, the incident happened in a shop where rewinding of fans and other electrical appliances are done. The correspondent indicated that the incident is believed to have happened the previous night because residents in the area noticed a hand outside the door of the shop which was locked, and found the body of the deceased after slightly pushing the door open. Breaking: Wagner Boss who Rebelled Against Putin Killed in Plane Crash

Founder of Russian Private Military Company, Yevgeny Prigozhin is reported to have died along with other crew members on a plane that crashed today. According to RT News, a  private jet traveling from Moscow to St. Petersburg crashed on Wednesday in Russia’s Tver Region. The Russian Emergencies Ministry said all 10 people on board had died. Rosaviation has since said that Evgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Private Military Company, was listed among the passengers. The outlet further reported that the crash happened near the village of Kuzhenkino in the northwestern Tver Region. Some Russian outlets have identified the plane as an Embraer Legacy 600, with the tail number RA-02795, which is believed to belong to Prigozhin. Government Freezes August Salaries of Striking CETAG Members

The Controller and Accountant General has been ordered to not validate or pay CETAG members salary for the Month of August.  According to a letter addressed to the Controller, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) dated August 21, 2023, indicated that the letter was issued at the insistence of the Minister of Education. The letter ordered that the monthly salary and allowances for the Month of August should not be paid to the Teaching Staff of all 46 Colleges of Education (CETAG). The letter directed that any arrears before the month under reference should be paid.  This comes after the Ministry of Education earlier argued that CETAG had embarked on an illegal strike to demand that government uphold its sife of an agreement with the  implementation of agreed conditions of service.  Below is a copy of the letter for your perusal. Man in Police Custody for Allegedly Slashing Farm Owner's Throat

  Source: Adonlmonline A youn man has allegedly beheaded his landlord during a misunderstanding in a farming community of Yaw Anane in the Bia West District of the Western North Region.  According to Adomonline, the incident happened  happened in the morning of Monday, August 21, 2023. Asantehene, Otomfuo Osei Tutu II has declared the stool of Nkonsonhene of Kumasi Traditional Council, Nana Osei Tire II vacant.  This happened on 14th August 2023, during a short sitting over the matter.  A Facebook page named "Manhyia Palace, Events and Photography" reported the issue.  According to the source, the Asantehene noted that aside his charges, the then Nkonsonhene has committed many offences over the years, by he (Asantehene) overlooked then became the Nkonsonhene has been his friend for a very long time. The outlet further revealed that one of the offences highlighted by the Asantehene during the hearing was that the then Nkonsonhene abandoned his stool (gods) at Kotei over the years, and that he has been waiting for the gods to destool him. Sad: Soldier Accidental Killed Himself Near Michel Camp

A Ghanaian soldier has reportedly killed himself by accident. The incident was announced in a press release by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces signed by Brigadier General E Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations on 19th August, 2023. According to the release, the Soldier, Private (Pte)  Bayou Roger, member of the 5th Infantry Battalion died as a result of a suspected "accidental discharge." The statement revealed that the incident occurred on Saturday, 19th August, 2023 while the soldier was performing duties at the Base Ammunition Depot Near Michel Camp. A video has surface on social media in which shows a young Ghanaian man mercilessly assaulting his girlfriend on the street for lying to him.  The video which was shred on twitter by a X (Twitter) user with name Sika Official revealed worrying content as the young lady was being assaulted while some individuals stood by in what was believed to be night time. According to the user who shared the video, an eye witness said explained that the lady was beaten by her boyfriend for allegedly lying to him about her whereabout.  He revealed that she was discovered at a different location after allegedly lying to her boyfriend that she was going to take something from someone at a different location. In the video, the lady was heard crying for help from the bystanders but none went to her recue amid hot slaps, punches and kicks from her boyfriend while she being dragged on the floor, even though one of them was able to film the incident. 60-year old Woman Beaten to Death Over Witchcraft Allegations in North East

Source: Joy News A 60yr old woman, Konjit Duut, has been beaten to death after she was accused of being a witch at Bunbuna in the Yunyoo/Nasuani district of the North East Region. Joy News reported that according to the family, the deceased was summoned by some of the community members after one of them reported seeing her in his dream trying to harm him. The family further revealed that the woman was murdered on her way to report the accusation against her to her family in the next village.  Meanwhile, thebParliament of Ghana recently passed a Bill seeking to proscribe witchcraft accusations. JoyNews revealed that a brother of the deceased, Jacob Kauk, who spoke to thes said the family is demanding the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.  The chief of the community has condemned the attack and vowed to ensure the law takes its course. GES has Released Promotion Test Results: More Here

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced the release of promotion test results to various grades in the GES.  The announcement was made in a press release dated 17th August, 2023 signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Head if Public Relations Unit.  According to the release, out of 80, 810 candidates who took the test, 55,917 representing 69% passed. On the other side, 39% have failed toe promotion test. For the Deputy Director grade, 54% have passed. While 85% passed the Assistant Director I grade. Additional, 61% passed the Assistant Director II grade, while 74% passed the Principal Superintendent grade.  "A message will be sent to all candidates who sat for the exams to indicate whether successful or not. (Please note that the promotion portal will NOT be accessible this year). Formal promotion letter will be released in due course", the statement read. 

Institute Disciplinary Proceedings against Attorney General: Assin North MP

Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson has petitioned the General Legal Council to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfrey Yeboah Dame for what he described as professional misconduct.  The MP is facing criminal charges in relation to his 2020 election candidacy and subsequent winning. Even though the case is still in court, the AG has in series of interviews concluded that the MP will be jailed, and has consequently requested that the case be heard on a daily basis.  According the petition filed on July 25, 2023 and addressed to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council, the MP contended that during the cross-examination of the first prosecution witness, Richard Takyi-Mensah, after the witness had testified confirming that he had given a statement to the police to which he attached certain documents, which testimony is also reflected in the police statement itsel
